Series – Good or Bad?

My last blog was about whether you should take on a series or not. I’ll admit that I pretty much take on continuities as I like revisiting the characters again and seeing how they’re doing.

I have one favourite series that I often go back and read or flick through.  It’s a Firefighter Series by Kathryn Shay. I was so invested in these characters that when the tragedy of 9/11 occurred my mind flitted to the characters from this book and wondered if anyone of them got the call out to attend.  Even though I knew they weren’t real, the writing and depth of the emotion Kathryn gave to characters made them extremely real to me.

Another favourite series is the Dante Legacy books by Day Leclaire. There is something extremely ‘romantic’ about touching ones soulmate and being bound to them.  I will be sad when the series ends and I know in May 2011 the last one of the series will be released – or will it?? There was a tidbit in the last book she wrote about perhaps another Dante heir that is unaware of their family history or they are and aren’t interested in it at all! I shall keep an eagle eye on her website and facebook to find out what is happening with that one!

Harlequin Desire constantly put out mini series and ‘Dynasty’ series concentrated on one family. I like these ones. However I have to say the series that came out last year, the last couple of books left me a bit flat. I don’t know what it was about them but I just felt they were rushed and a few inconsistencies which bothered me a tad.

Last year I also read a Harlequin SuperRomance series called the “Diamond Legacy”.  It was released in 2009 I think. I have to say I was left very deflated with that one. There was a massive secret in the family and I mean MASSIVE and I felt it was never fully explained the reasoning of how this family came about. Secret children and the adoption of a biological child and why was it done and accepted.  I have too many questions that still need to be answered with that series to feel like it was ‘finished’.

Sometimes you pick up a book by a favourite author and don’t realise that the hero or heroine is related to a book you read  few years ago.  I love finding these treasures. In my blog about January books I’d read you’ll see that this happened to me with some of Anne McAllister books.  There’s still some siblings I’m looking forward to reading about!

Overall I have to say my experience with series has been good and well I will definitely be on the lookout for more of them. I’ve read so many that I am definitely a fan of connected books 🙂

Have you read a series that’s let you down?
