Funny heading you say considering nearly everyone knows I’m an Aussie – I’m pretty open about letting everyone know. If you follow me on Facebook you’ll see sometimes I use Aussie terms on my statuses that confuse people. I love explaining my unique terms to those who ask.
But why, you ask, am I writing a blog about it. Well see, today is Australia Day. I already did a blog on how I’m going to celebrate today when I was part of a Blog Hop. It’s here if you want to find out what I said. I also blogged about why I set my stories in Australia, that post is here.
I’m blogging about this particular topic because sometimes I feel like I’m in limbo. I’m an Aussie author living in the US. I market myself as an Aussie author but am I known as an Aussie author on Australian e-stores and in the Australian readers market? I’m published by a fantastic Australian publishing house Escape Publishing. But I’m also published by another awesome publishing house Crimson Romance which is US based.
Now here’s the thing. When I went back to Perth last year and did an organized book signing I was listed as a “US” author. Umm no, I’m an Australian. I may not reside there but heck I’m Aussie through and through. I wanted to be recognized by everyone as being an Australian author – because that’s who I am. I don’t know how to fix that, apart from getting on the major lists and then everyone will know who I am. But until I hit a list, and I know I will get there one day, everyone here in blog land and the internet knows the truth.
More importantly I know who I am and am damn proud to be an Australian Author!
It’ll come, but it’s also about the marketing of your brand. You’ll get there lady!
